Imperial Riding Snaffle Bridle Size Guide

Use this size guide to find the correct fit for Imperial Riding snaffle bridles. Imperial Riding sizes are based on five horse-size categories — Shetland, Pony, Cob, Full and X-Full — and the dimensions below describe the bridle's leather components in cm.

How to measure: if your horse already has a well-fitting bridle, lay it flat and compare each strap to the dimensions below. If you're sizing from scratch, measure your horse's head: noseband should sit two finger-widths below the cheekbone with two fingers' clearance under the strap; browband should sit flat below the ears without pinching; cheekpieces should buckle with the bit at the corner of the mouth.

  • A — cheekpiece (bit attachment to crownpiece buckle)
  • B — browband length
  • C — crownpiece + headpiece across the poll
  • D — throatlash
  • E — noseband cheek strap
  • F — noseband front strap
  • G — reins (each side)

Size A B C D E F G
Shetland 46 32.5 34 12.5 18 35.5 63.5
Pony 48.5 33 36.5 15.5 20.5 38 66
Cob 51 36 39.5 17.5 23 40.5 68.5
Full 53.5 40.5 42 20.5 25.5 43 71
X-Full 56 43.5 44.5 23.5 28 45.5 73

All measurements in cm. Most cheekpieces, nosebands and throatlashes have multiple holes for fine adjustment, so the figures above describe the leather strap length, not the fitting range. If your horse sits between two sizes (e.g. a small Full or large Cob), choose the size where the strap holes fall mid-range rather than at one end.

This guide covers Imperial Riding's snaffle bridle range. Weymouth (double) bridles use a slightly different configuration — refer to the individual product page for those dimensions.
