Measurements are taken from buckle end, to the very end of the stirrup leather, laid out flat.

We usually recommend measuring your existing stirrups, to find out which size to buy. However, if you're starting over, and have no idea what length you need, we've created a full blog on stirrup leathers and their sizes, to help you choose.

The Colorado Soft stirrup leathers from Schockemohle are exactly what the name suggests — incredibly soft leather that sits beautifully under your leg without creating bulk or pressure points. The triple-folded construction provides strength despite the softness.

These are the leathers you choose when comfort under the leg matters to you. Available in Black and Espresso with silver fittings, in a full range of lengths from 115cm to 165cm. A great everyday stirrup leather at a very reasonable price.

Key Features

  • Ultra-soft leather stirrup leathers
  • Triple-folded construction for strength
  • Minimal bulk under the leg
  • Lengths from 115cm to 165cm

All stirrup leathers are measured in either inches, or centimetres. They're measured from the very end of the buckle, through to the very end of the leather, in its entirety (ie not folded in half as they are when you're using them!)

The full size conversion chart for these leathers is in the Size Guide link above the description for this product. We also have an extensive guide in our blog, which you can find here: Stirrup Leather Buying Guide.

As stirrup leathers are made from real leather, they do require a little TLC from time to time, to keep them in tip-top condition and to make sure they last as long as possible.

If your stirrup leathers get very wet, we'd recommend leaving them down and loose (not folded up for storage), while they dry, if that is possible. As with all your tack, its important to leave it in a warm dry place, out of direct sunlight and with proper ventilation (dry tack rooms are ideal!). Never dry your stirrup leathers with artificial heat (such as from a radiator) as this can dry them out quickly.

Even though they are leatherwork, the best way to clean them is with standard leather cleaner. We do not recommend using oil or balms on your leathers, as this can make them too soft and supple, and increase the chance of them stretching.

Around every month or so, we'd recommend that you switch over your leathers (ie switch the right to the left side and vice versa) so that they are worn equally. We all get on at the left side of the horse, meaning there's extra pressure placed on that stirrup, which can over time make it longer than the right leather.

Stirrups will wear over time, but minimising the amount of times you change the length of your leathers really helps. For this reason, it's recommended that you have two sets of leathers, if you regularly change the lengths (for jumping and flatwork for example).
